Shannon Schiner

PSIA-AASI Intermountain Board Member President

Biography

Hello! I’m Shannon and my passion for adventure drives me to continually take on new challenges – both personally and professionally. I first joined PSIA and taught skiing in 1993.  After a few years of seasonal instructing, I left the teaching slopes for a few years to work in other areas of tourism.  An international ski tour operator, public relations firm, and resort development company allowed me to stay involved with skiing from different angles. My diverse professional background helps me in my position as a Board Member at Large with PSIA/AASI Intermountain.

Working full-time as a PSIA-AASI instructor has given me countless opportunities, both personally and professionally.  Currently I hold a PSIA Alpine Level 2, Children’s Specialist 2, and I am actively pursuing the Alpine Level 3 certification. The events that I have attended for certification and development have helped me build relationships not only at my home mountain, Jackson Hole, but also across our division and nationally.  I always value what I learn from the trainers, as well as my peers.

A recent honor was receiving one of the two National 2019 PSIA-AASI Three C’s Awards (Collaboration, Communication, and Cooperation). This award recognizes members who demonstrate positive leadership behavior by consistently collaborating, communicating and cooperating with guests, peers, and school management. I continue to carry forward the 3Cs in our region – working together to consistently collaborate, communicate and cooperate with our members.

My mountain work is year-round, in the summers I help train staff for our aerial adventure course, and I am a Lead Climbing Guide at the Jackson Hole Via Ferrata. I enjoy showing our visitors with or without snow the mountains can provide some extraordinary options. Whether supporting fellow instructors or serving as a guide for adventure-seekers, I bring unbridled energy and enthusiasm to our unique role in the mountain communities that we all serve as members of PSIA/AASI.

My education credentials, including an M.Ed and B.S. in Hospitality Management, back my ability to assist with the innovation and development that will ensure the future growth and success of snow sports professionals.
