Board of Directors Nominations Due
Written by Office Staff
I know it is the very start to the season, but now is a great time to start thinking about ways to participate in the management, direction, and decisions that define the Intermountain Division by becoming a member of the Board of Directors (BOD). You do not need to be a DECL or a school director, simply a member that cares. We need BOD members that will represent the voices and opinions of many, which is the role of a Board member. As a Certified Member in good standing, you are eligible to run for the Board of Directors, and we need YOU. Nominations and applications for the PSIA/AASI-I Board of Directors are due in the Division office by Thursday, February 15, 2018. Remember that any certified member (Level I, Level II or Level III) in good standing is eligible to run and, if elected, serve.
The Board is comprised of members elected by members each year in the spring. Terms run for three years, beginning with the start of “new business” at the Spring BOD meeting.
There are two different kinds of board seats, Members At Large and Regional. Any certified member in good standing can run for the board as a Member at Large. The same member can run for the board when a Regional seat for the member’s home snowsport area becomes available. The PSIA/AASI-I Board of Directors meetings are held three times each year, tentatively scheduled for May, September and January. The opening board positions are:
– Region 1 (Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, Snow King, White Pine)
– Region 6 (Solitude, Brighton, Sundance)
– Region 7 (Alta, Snowbird)
– and two (2) members at large.
The requirements to appear on the ballot include:
– You must be a certified member in good standing.
– For the three Regional seats, you must be employed by one of the snowsports schools in the region in which you are running.
– Your application must include the signatures of five division members in good standing who support your candidacy.
– You must provide a photo (suitable for publication) and a short biography, including education, past and present employment, division employment, and years of membership, along with a statement of your expectations and goals for the division.
Online voting will be available starting on March 1, 2018. Members may request hard copy ballots from the office if required. Voting must be completed by March 15, 2018. Mailed ballots will be accepted with a postmark no later than Wednesday March 15, 2018. Voting results will be tallied and winners announced.
If you are interested in becoming involved in the governance of your association, we welcome your candidacy for a seat on the Board. Some elections have seen candidates run unopposed and other elections have not had a Regional candidate. Let’s all benefit from our members’ active engagement. If you have questions regarding this process or your aspirations you may contact the office or a current BOD member.
