Snow King Turns 80 This Year

Snow King just celebrated 80 years of skiing and recreation! Wyoming's first ski area, The King opened for business in 1939 with the installation of an uphill tow. It was powered by an old Ford tractor and run on a cable bought from a Casper oil drilling company. A lot has changed at the town hill, including the installation of the their newest chairlift in 2015. The anniversary party in February included $8 lift tickets, 80s tunes and 80s costumes (imagine the big hair)! Congrats on 80 great years Snow King.

Trying Out for the National Team? Sign up for the Intermountain Selection Day!

The PSIA/AASI National Team Selection process helps PSIA/AASI select the nation's best instructors to represent the association at the highest level. In April 2020, the National Team selection will take place in Breckenridge, Colorado. The first step in this process will take place this April in Snowbird, Utah with the Intermountain Division Selection. A Divisional nomination is a requirement for the National application process, allowing each division to play an active role in the selection of the National Team. Intermountain candidates must be nominated through the Intermountain Selection process. Successful candidates will receive a letter of nomination. This will also allow IMD to focus our efforts and provide additional training opportunities for those of you representing the Intermountain Division next spring.

For more information, or to register, head on over to the event page, located here for Alpine and here for Snowboard.

Scholarship Spotlight

My name is Bryan Jackson, and I am a snowboard instructor at Brian Head Resort. This is my third season teaching and I am currently working towards my AASI Level 2. I am going for my Level 2 in order to make myself a more efficient rider and teacher. I would also love to teach in New Zealand sometime. That would be so sick to snowboard year-round like that. This scholarship has helped me out tremendously with my travel expenses. The trip out to Jackson Hole was a long one but so worth it! I traveled with three other instructors from my resort and we made a nice little road trip out of it. The highlight of my ride clinic at Snow King was when I learned a more efficient way to make dynamic turns. I feel like my riding has improved a lot since that clinic. That moment of clarity made the whole trip worth it! I can't wait to have more experiences like that throughout my career as an instructor.
