Course Description:

This two part webinar is designed to help instructor's create a personalized training plan for the winter. In session 1 we will explore the different types of training approaches, and how to understand and recognize skill acquisition vs. skill retention. Session 2 will discuss Deep Practice and will provide opportunities for participants to receive feedback on their training plans. This webinar is useful for any PSIA member who is pursuing a certification or wanting to improve/maintain their skiing skills.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Create a individualized season training plan
  • Articulate and recognize the difference between the Acquisition Phase and the Retention Phase of motor skill development
  • Understand the difference of Training for Learning, Training for Maintaining, and Training for Competition
  • Articulate and implement the specifics of Deep Practice
  • Learning Experiences:
  • Participants will learn ways to identify their and students' current phase of motor skill development and what type of training approach may be most effective for their learning style.
  • Participants will self-assess areas they can develop a motor skills acquisition/retention plan around.
  • Using the concepts of Training for Outcomes and Deep Practice, participants will write a plan for successful skill acquisition.
  • Review plans with DECL to evaluate effectiveness towards outcome.



All PSIA-AASI members must follow the PSIA-AASI code of conduct.

All members participating in an Intermountain clinic or assessment must wear a helmet when sliding on snow using lift-accessed terrain.
