Adaptive Snowboard Certification

Below is listed the certification process for each level. For more information, you may consult the AASI Adaptive Snowboard National Standards.

Adaptive Snowboard Pathway

Level 1 Certification Process 

  1. PSIA-AASI Registered Member
  2. New Instructor E-Learning
  3. Level 1 E-Learning Course/Workbook
  4. Level 1 Foundations Clinic (no prior teaching)
  5. Pass AASI Snowboard Level 1 ,Foreign Equivalent or US Ski & Snowboard Level 100 or Coaches Equivalent
  6. Adaptive Experience E-Learning
  7. Pass one of the following exams:
    1. AASI Adaptive Snowboard Level I Cognitive – Visual Impairment
    2. AASI Adaptive Snowboard Level I Stand-Up Physical
    3. AASI Adaptive Snowboard Level I Bi-Ski – Mono-Ski

 

Prerequisites:

Adaptive Snowboard Level I instructors must be certified at Snowboard Level I (or equivalent) instructor and successfully complete at least one assessment module for paired adaptive disciplines (Cognitive/Visual Impairment, Stand-Up Physical Diagnoses, Bi-Ski/Mono-Ski). Candidates are free to seek assessment in any or all paired adaptive-discipline modules, which will confer additional adaptive specialist certificates and establish a broader foundation in adaptive instruction.

 

Note: Upon becoming certified at Adaptive Snowboard Level I, instructors can choose to specialize in the adaptive discipline(s) of their choice, earning, for example, an Adaptive Snowboard Specialist 2 – Bi-Ski certificate and/or an Adaptive Snowboard Specialist 2 – Mono-Ski certificate. To pursue an Adaptive Snowboard Specialist 3 designation in the adaptive discipline(s) of their choice, the candidate must have earned Snowboard Level II certification and the Adaptive snowboard Specialist 2 certificate(s) in the same discipline(s).

 

Level 2 Certification Process

  1. PSIA-AASI Certified Adaptive Snowboard Level I
  2. Complete all Required Online Module Exams(4)
    1. Bi-Ski Level II
    2. Cognitive Level II
    3. Mono-Ski Level II
    4. Visual Impairment Level II
  3. Complete Adaptive Level II General Knowledge Online Exam
  4. Pass all 5 of the Adaptive Discipline Exams (5-Days)
    1. Cognitive Level II 
    2. Visual Impairment Level II
    3. Stand-Up Physical Level II 
    4. Bi-Ski Level II
    5. Mono Ski Level II
  5. AASI Snowboard Level II or Snowboard Level II Foreign Equivalent

Level 3​ Certification Process

This event is offered when demand warrants; there is a two-person minimum.

  1. Obtain the Level 2 Adaptive Snowboard Certification and the Level 2 Snowboard Certification.
  2. Complete 24 hours of practice riding in the adaptive equipment at your home resort, including 8 hours each of mono skiing and bi skiing and 4 hours each of Rider Bar/1&2 outrigger practice. All hours must be documented on the Ski/Ride the Equipment Log, signed by your Ski School Director, and turned in to the Division Office with your event registration form two weeks prior to your first assessment day.
  3. Take and pass the comprehensive Level 3 Exam containing elements of all THREE modules. These teaching assessment days will include on­-snow assessment of teaching and riding skills and an interview to assess general knowledge.
  4. AASI Adaptive Snowboard Level III Cognitive – Visual Impairment
  5. Adaptive Snowboard Level III Stand-Up Physical
  6. Adaptive Snowboard Level III Bi-Ski – Mono-Ski
