Applications to run for the Board of Directors this year are due on February 15, 2024. Here is some information about the Board and about the election process to help you decide if you would like to run for a seat.
What do they do?
The Intermountain Board of Directors consists of PSIA-AASI members who volunteer their time and expertise to the board. They are responsible for the strategic management of our nonprofit corporation. Board members represent the PSIA-AASI membership. They represent their ski schools and the Intermountain Region. The board operates following our Policies and Procedures along with our By-Laws.
What should members want and need from their Directors?
We all want a board member who has passion for the organization, a willingness to volunteer their time, and the desire to be a leader. A board member should have a team-oriented attitude; the board members work to speak with one voice for the entire board. Although no longer selected by location or school affiliation, The Intermountain Board of Directors seeks a variety of professional expertise including across disciplines, cultural backgrounds, spectrum of life/work experience and geographic reach.
What is the time commitment?
The board meets three times a year (summer, fall and spring) over one or two days in the vicinity of Salt Lake City. There is advance preparation required for these meetings, including reading reports and proposals, examining the budget and approving the minutes. Beginning with the summer meeting, there is a strategic planning session that reviews membership data such as event and exam data, and financials of the organization. This is a fact-based assessment of our financial stability and a review of the membership’s needs. The board also reviews and revises policies as needed. The board is also strategizes new ideas for education and working with the National organization and other regions.
So, you want to run for a BOD position! Great! Here is the process:
- Applicants must be certified Level 1, 2, or 3 members, in good standing, of Intermountain.
- Applicants must be endorsed, in writing, by five certified members in good standing in the division. The endorsement should just contain a statement that the endorser is confident that the candidate will be a strong and committed member of the board, and that the candidate will put in the time and work needed. This does not need to be a full letter of recommendation.
- Applications are to be received in the office via email at jholdorf@psia-i.org
- Applicants must submit a photograph no smaller than 2″ x 2”.
- Applicants must submit a short biographical paragraph, which includes your certification education, past/present employment, years of membership, and why you want to be on the board. This will be published so that members can know you better and vote.
- Voting for all candidates will be by eligible voters within the full Intermountain membership.
